Thrashers, cancer, too much for Leafs

“They’re serious about winning,” said Jason Blake upon becoming a Maple Leaf this past summer to a five-year, $20 million contract. This was when it was serially slipping his mind that he had cancer; before the Leafs paid $8 million for a back-up goalie; before Tuesday night’s shoot-out loss to the Thrashers, the NHL’s lowliest team. An index into Toronto’s terribleness? They played a team that fired their coach last week, a team who’s goalie was out with a pulled wang, and Toronto still found ways to lose. The upside? A managerial shake-up is a-comin’.

  1. I hope the Leafs’ managerial shake-up involves stuffing John Ferguson Jr.’s head into a blender for snoozing on Anson Carter last season, and letting Mike Peca get away this year. At the very least it will improve his complexion.
