Sure was nice of New York Islanders coach Ted Nolan to suggest bringing the team’s legendary benchman, Al Arbour, out of retirement to coach his 1,500th game against Sidney Crosby and the Penguins on November 3. But hey, it’s the guy’s 75th birthday today, he hasn’t coached a game in 15 years and he lives in Florida where his eyelids start fluttering before Grey’s Anatomy even comes on. So we’re gonna have a geriatric with window-pane glasses behind the bench as a celebrity coach in a critical game. Is there even room for a walker back there? Let’s hope they stocked up on Depends. Here’s an idea: Why don’t the Leafs invite the ghost of Punch Imlach back to coach their sorry asses? Please let this not be a trend.
